High street makeup is great, and if our budgets allowed it, we’d all be painted forehead to collarbone in the best brands. If you’re like me, though, our reality is more NYX than MAC and CoverGirl than Givenchy. That doesn’t mean we have to compromise our style, though.
Check out my favorite dupes that will make you look like a million bucks for much, much less.
High Street: Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush, $30
Dupe: Milani Blush Baked Powder, $7
The Too Faced Sweetheart is a welcome product in anyone’s collection, prized for it’s airy, smooth application and shimmering finish. Each heart comes with 3 shades for flawless blending, highlighting and shadowing. You almost fell in love… until you saw the price tag!
Thankfully, Milani makes a gorgeous and thrifty substitute, giving you the same light, creamy texture and brightening color you’d expect from a much more expensive product. The best part is, the Milani Baked Powders each have a marble of colors for more realistic blending, just like their high-end counterpart.
High Street: Urban Decay Moondust, $21
Dupe: L’Oreal Paris Infallible, $7
We all love Urban Decay because their pigments are true, their colors are bold, and their primer could survive a nuclear blast. These Moondust compacts deliver just the right amount of shimmer and beautiful solid color. Could you possibly get a comparable product without breaking the bank?
It’s easy to find glitter eyeshadow in gaudy colors, and that’s why we love the Moondust line of wearable, natural shades. The L’Oreal Infallible line also meets your needs with brown, pink, and tan options. It goes on smoothly and gives you just the right amount of glitter at a fraction of the price.
High Street: Smashbox Indecent Exposure Mascara, $22
Dupe: Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara, $8
The smaller, well-defined brush on Smashbox’s Indecent Exposure Mascara applicator is unique, and the formula is free of those wisps and clumps that make other products look more like mud than makeup. This mascara gives you shape, curl and definition as opposed to outrageously large lashes.
Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto line is respectable in its own, but their Voluptuous formula works the most like Indecent Exposure and the applicator makes it so easy to shape your lashes. Be sure to start from the base of your lashes and work to the tips.
High Street: MAC Matte Lipstick, $20
Dupe: ELF Matte Lipcolor, $3
Matte lip color needs to have rich pigment that lasts all day. We love matte lipstick for work and the gym, and MAC makes the longest lasting, lip-staining matte in the industry. Still, anyone with experience knows to top off a MAC matte color with a dab of lipgloss to avoid chapping.
My favorite secret dupe of the list is ELF’s Matte Lipcolor, available in a range of colors for under $5. I get endless compliments on this product and it lasts all day through talking, eating and drinking. The shape and size of the applicator is also unique and easier to use than traditional shapes like MAC uses. Better still, ELF’s Lipcolor is much more moisturizing than MAC’s chapping formula.
I hope you liked this list! Even without a huge makeup budget, we can all achieve a high street look. Whether you share your secret is up to you!
